Trump Campaign Allegedly Disguised Nearly $170m in Funds
The Campaign Legal Center, a group that works to limit money’s influence on politics, claims that President Donald Trump’s campaign allegedly disguised payments worth nearly $170 million.
“Specifically, the Trump campaign and Trump Make America Great Again Committee disguised nearly $170 million dollars of campaign spending by laundering the funds through firms headed by Trump’s recent campaign manager, Brad Parscale, and/or created by Trump campaign lawyers,” the Campaign Legal Center said in an 82-page complaint.

The campaign’s spending practices are suspected to be in violation of the federal-campaign transparency rules.
“The Trump campaign’s spending practices have the practical effect of masking payments — in violation of federal campaign-transparency rules — to various advertising contractors and senior Trump campaign staff and family members, including Lara Trump, the wife of the president’s son Eric Trump, and Kimberly Guilfoyle, the girlfriend of Donald Trump Jr.,” said Business Insider’s Dave Levinthal.
“Voters have a clear right under the law to know how campaigns are spending money to influence elections,” said Trevor Potter, the Campaign Legal Center’s president and a former Republican chairman of the FEC, via Business Insider. “Without this information, they certainly should be asking, ‘what is the Trump campaign hiding?’”
Business Insider says there is almost no chance that a ruling on the matter will come before November 3.
In essence, Trump might get away with disguising millions in funding without any consequences considering a possible ruling would come after the election. A ruling after the election will be nothing more than a symbolic gesture.
Just over one year ago, Trump said this via Politico.
“I’m the most transparent president, probably, in the history of this country,” said Trump.
