Trump Called Gregory Cheadle “My African American.” Now Cheadle Has Left the GOP Due to Racist Policies
With very poor approval ratings among African Americans, Donald Trump often likes to point out his supporters of color. He regularly makes note of his support from superstar rapper Kanye West and prominent Blexit activist Candace Owens.
Trump also pointed out Gregory Cheadle in the crowd while appearing at an airport in Redding California. The real estate broker recently told PBS that he has changed his party affiliation from Republican to Independent and that he did so due to the racist polices of the GOP.
That day in Redding, Trump said, “We had a case where we had an African American guy who was a fan of mine. Great fan, great guy. In fact, I want to find out what’s going on with him.” He then pointed to Cheadle and remarked, “Ah, look at my African American over here! Look at him! Are you the greatest? You know what I’m talking about?”
Now Cheadle says of that moment, “I’m more critical of it today than I was back then because today I wonder to what extent he said that for political gain or for attention.”
He continued on Trump by saying, “President Trump is a rich guy who is mired in white privilege to the extreme. Republicans are too sheepish to call him out on anything and they are afraid of losing their positions and losing any power themselves.”
Donald Trump will have an uphill battle with black voters in 2020. In a recent Harris poll, the President’s approval rating among African American voters stood at 13%.
