With the surprise resignation of Shepard Smith, Fox News only have a few pundits left who commonly draw the ire of Donald Trump. Andrew Napolitano, who Trump accused of begging for a spot on the Supreme Court, is still a contributor. Chris Wallace also remains with the network.
Wallace has been one of the strongest Fox voices calling out Trump for his Ukraine actions. Trump hit back at Wallace’s recent coverage this weekend saying the pundit misrepresented his phone calls with Ukraine leader, Volodmyr Zelensky.
The Fox host has been all over the story since day one. When the the news first broke, Wallace told viewers, “The fact is that the president says that in that introductory or in that congratulatory phone call with the president-elect at that time of Ukraine… He did talk about Joe Biden and his son and possible corruption and expressed some concerns about wanting the Ukrainian president to look into that.”
Wallace continued, “It may not bear fruit, but there is some meat on the bones here, both in terms of what the president said to the Ukrainian president and the actions that he had taken to stop aid before he made that call. So, there’s going to be something here for Congress to investigate. Whether it ends up rising to the levels of articles of impeachment, we don’t know.”
On Sunday night, Trump took aim at Wallace and his representation of the matter. He tweeted, “Somebody please explain to Chris Wallace of Fox, who will never be his father (and my friend), Mike Wallace, that the Phone Conversation I had with the President of Ukraine was a congenial & good one. It was only Schiff’s made up version of that conversation that was bad!”
