Trump Asked if He Could Rescind Scooter Libby’s Pardon After Former Bush COS Supported Liz Cheney

The ability to pardon is quite possibly the most awesome power given to an American President. And Donald Trump certainly took advantage of that ability. However, Trump mostly pardoned friends and supporters rather than anyone who truly needed help.

One of those people pardoned by Trump was Scooter Libby. Libby, formally George W. Bush’s Chief of Staff, outed Valerie Plame, a covert CIA Agent. He was later convicted of obstruction of justice and lying to the FBI. Bush commuted his sentence, and Libby did not go to prison. The felony conviction, though, remained.
In 2018, Trump fully pardoned Libby. “I don’t know Mr. Libby,” he said at the time, “but for years, I have heard that he has been treated unfairly. Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life.”
Trump, however, recently learned that Libby would be attending an event for Liz Cheney. According to Haberman, “Trump has been complaining loudly to people that SCOOTER LIBBY, who he pardoned, is attending a fundraiser for Liz Cheney. He has indicated he sees it as somehow disloyal, per people familiar with the discussions.”
Washington Post scribe Josh Dawsey also weighed in, writing, “and he asked if he could rescind the pardon.”
