Trump Allies Are Frustrated Over His Constant Petty Grievances
Close allies of Donald Trump have been getting “increasingly frustrated” with the former guy, who they say spends his days nursing “petty grievances” against people he thinks have wronged him when he is not playing golf. Republican leadership is also attempting to strike a balance between maintaining their ties to the twice-impeached two-time loser of the Popular Vote, but his constant public whining is causing a rift behind closed doors.
Trump’s remaining allies say they wish he was working to protect policies enacted during his term while helping Republicans in 2022. “All the 2022 stuff is, ‘Well, what’s in it for me?’ ” said one former senior White House official, summarizing Trump’s thinking.
According to a new piece in The Washington Post, Trump’s tactics haven’t changed at all since retiring to Mar-A-Lago, where he ducks his post-White House responsibilities to find new ways to excoriate his political enemies instead. Instead of establishing a Presidential library and making himself available to give positive support to the 2022 midterms, he’s too busy essentially a Daily Festivus blog where he can air his grievances.
The WaPo piece nails the former guy: “The defeated ex-president is propelled primarily by a thirst for retribution, an insatiable quest for the spotlight, and a desire to establish and maintain total dominance and control over the Republican base, said several former senior White House advisers. He has boasted to some in his orbit that he expects a book deal at some point, though there is no known offer, two advisers said.”
Axios notes that 45’s hold over the GOP has only *grown* since Jan 6.
The party is fully in thrall to a vulgar, ignorant, petty grifter who lost them both Congress and the White House, readily jettisoning core positions on trade and foreign policy to do so.https://t.co/j7oXcOh0ov

Noting that most of Trump’s endorsements so far are being referred to as “revenge endorsements” aimed at Republican lawmakers he believes crossed him, the Post reports the former guy’s desire for revenge is beginning to frustrate those close to him.
Privately, however, many Republican officials — including some Trump allies — are growing frustrated, worried that the former president is wasting his time on petty rivalries and grievances.https://t.co/HO8kGQKnmi
