Trump AG Pick Refuses to Meet Democrats, Somehow Blames the Shutdown, Then Changes His Tune

Update: 11:30am EST – Barr will now meet with Democrats

President Trump’s pick for the new attorney general, former attorney general William Barr, reportedly refused to meet with Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee because of the government shutdown.

In a Tweet, Amy Klobuchar, the Democratic senator for Minnesota who sits alongside Democrat Richard Blumenthal on the Judiciary Committee, said, “I tried (as did Blumenthal) to get a meeting w/AG nominee Barr and was told he couldn’t meet until AFTER the hearing.”

The government shutdown did not stop Barr, the attorney general under George H.W. Bush, from meeting with Republican senators on the committee. Talking Points Memo reports Barr found the time to meet with Lindsey Graham and Chuck Grassley earlier this week.

Klobuchar expressed her surprise on Twitter. “This is a 1st for me w/any nominee as a member of judiciary,” she said, ending her Tweet with #Uncool and #BadSign.
