Trump Adviser on the President: He’s Just Done With COVID-19
Donald Trump’s Twitter feed is essentially the only way the President communicates now. And if on was to look at his daily missives, it would seem like COVID-19 is essentially over. The only time that Trump references the global pandemic is when he’s trying to claim credit for Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccine.
The virus is still raging across the country, though. There were 2,700 coronarvirus deaths on Saturday and over 3,400 on Friday. ICU units in a number of American cities are completely full. According to a new report from the Washington Post, though, the President is essentially done battling the virus.
The report was compiled by Yasmeen Abutaleb, Ashley Parker, Josh Dawsey, and Philip Rucker. The reporters spoke to over 50 people who either work on the COVID Task Force or within the administration.
“Trump went days without mentioning the pandemic other than to celebrate progress on vaccines. The president by then had abdicated his responsibility to manage the public health crisis and instead used his megaphone almost exclusively to spread misinformation in a failed attempt to overturn the results of the election he lost to President-elect Joe Biden.”
The reporters also quote a close Trump adviser as saying, “I think he’s just done with Covid. I think he put it on a timetable and he’s done with Covid. . . . It just exceeded the amount of time he gave it.”
