Tom Emmer Backs Trump After Trump Sabotaged His Bid for Speaker

On Wednesday, Republican Congressman Tom Emmer announced that he is backing Donald Trump for President in 2024. Just a few months ago, Trump spoke out against Emmer's bid for Speaker of the House.

Trump then said of Minnesota's Emmer, who also serves as the House Majority Whip, "I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors. RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them."

The former President continued:

"Has he only changed because that’s what it takes to win? The Republican Party cannot take that chance, because that’s not where the America First Voters are. Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake!”

In Emmer's mind, that incident never happened. On Wednesday, the Congressman wrote:

Democrats have made clear they will use every tool in their arsenal to try and keep Joe Biden and his failed policies in power. We cannot let them. It's time for Republicans to unite behind our party's clear frontrunner, which is why I'm proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for President."

While Emmer's initial rejection from Trump was humiliating, this endorsement ups the ante. That senior Republican leadership feels the need to grovel before Trump like this shows just how much power he holds in the party.
