Tim Ryan Slams Trump’s Visit to North Korea
Donald Trump and Kim Jong-Un have had a roller coaster of relationship since Trump took office in 2016. The President began his term by threatening the North Korean leader and mocking him as “Little Rocket Man.” Since then, the warming of the relationship culminated with Trump visiting Kim in the North Korean DMZ.
By becoming the first sitting President to enter into North Korea, Trump shocked Democrats and Conservatives alike. On Sunday afternoon, Ohio Congressman and Democratic contender, Tim Ryan, blasted the President’s decision.
Ryan was appearing on Maria Bartiromo’s Fox News show. He told the host:
“I think this has been the President Trump appeasement tour. I have no idea why he is shaking hands with a dictator who just in May was sending missiles into the Sea of Japan. You don’t reward that kind of behavior with a visit to your country from the president of the United States.”
The Ohio Congressman also appeared on Brian Stelter’s CNN show on Sunday. There, he compared Trump’s visit to North Korea to another trip that was made back in the 1930’s. He told Stelter, “This is historic — him going to North Korea is like Chamberlain going to talk to Hitler.”
In addition to his Trump comments, Ryan recently announced a plan to install mental health professionals in every school. He explained, “Seventy-three percent of [school shooters] feel shamed, traumatized or bullied. We need to make sure that these kids feel connected to the school. That means a mental health counselor in every single school in the United States.”
