They Took Down Madison Cawthorn. Now They’re Going After Lauren Boebert.

One of the members of the conservative group that pulled out all the stops to make sure that Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) lost his primary last Tuesday says their next target is another controversial freshman, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO). Boebert, who faces her own primary challenge on June 28th, just might end up like Cawthorn thanks to The American Muckrakers PAC, also known as FireBoebert.com.

The group’s leader, David B. Wheeler, told Matt Lewis of the Daily Beast that they plan to focus on Boebert’s “absolute mess” of a personal life, the same approach they took with Cawthorn.

There’s certainly plenty to mine from Boebert’s life, much of which is well-documented and has been widely reported. Oddly, voters in her district didn’t seem to mind her rap sheet, which includes assaulting her husband, Jayson, who was arrested in 2004 for exposing himself to two teenage girls at a bowling alley while Boebert was sitting nearby. That same year, he was arrested on a domestic violence charge against her, and he served seven days in jail. A few months later, they were married shortly after Boebert was charged with assaulting him.

Boebert also has a dubious track record since being sworn in just a couple of months before the January 6th insurrection, and her phone records have already been subpoenaed by the January 6th House Select Committee.

“It won’t be easy, but it seems at least possible that Boebert will continue the trend that started last week with Cawthorn’s defeat. If that happens, it’s game on,” David Wheeler told the Daily Beast, adding, “Defeating flawed politicians like Cawthorn and Boebert after one term would serve as a sort of course correction and send a message to everyone else.”
