The Uvalde Mayor is Mad at Republicans Who Question His Police Force’s Response

At this point, it is unclear what the Uvalde, Texas police force was doing last when children were being massacred. At worst, it seems like they were too scared to engage the gunman and left the kids to their own devices. The issue will eventually be sorted out by the FBI.

The Governor of the town, Don McLaughlin, mainly made waves by getting really upset when Beto O’Rourke questioned Greg Abbott’s leadership. And the Republican is not interested in hearing any criticism of his police force, even if it’s coming from fellow GOPer’s. This weekend,  McLaughlin blasted Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.

After Patrick said that he was misled, McLaughlin responded, “Local law enforcement has not made any public comments about the specifics of the investigation into the incident or mislead [sic] anyone. Statements by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick that he was ‘not told the truth’ are not true. All statements and comments made to date about the ongoing investigation are being handled by DPS/Texas Rangers.”

McLaughlin also backed beleaguered school police chief Pete Arredondo, saying, “Arredondo was duly elected to the City Council,” he wrote. “There is nothing in the City Charter, Election Code, or Texas Constitution that prohibits him from taking the oath of office.”
