1. The Vanishing Hoodie

My university was bisected by a big lake, with a bridge going across it with an island gazebo in the middle. One night, I was walking down the side of the lake about to cross the bridge to go to a dorm on the other side.

As I was walking down the sidewalk, I noticed some kid in a grey/white hoodie (with the hood up) walking across the section of the bridge on my side of the gazebo, towards my sidewalk.

I didn't think anything of him until I walked by a big tree that blocked my line of sight for a second. When I got past the tree, I happened to glance back at the bridge and there was no one there.

He couldn't have possibly walked off the bridge without going right by me, and if he had turned around in the split second I couldn't see him, he wouldn't have had any time to get back to the island, either. He was just gone.

This gets creepier. A year later, I was about to tell this story to my friend who had been abroad that semester. He'd never heard it, and before I even got to what I saw, he cut in with "Wait, did you see a guy in a hoodie disappear?"

Yes- he had seen something just like this freshman year. So weird. I hated walking across that bridge alone from there on out.

2. Terrifying Game Of Simon Says

I'm not sure how freaky it is, since it's not paranormal or anything, but when I was about 7 years old I went on a walk with my babysitter.

We were walking back a mile or so to my house on a fairly busy road and about halfway there she said we should play Simon Says. At first, we walk faster, then skip, and then jog lightly.

Then she says "Simon says run as fast as you can. Simon says turn here." I was slightly confused but played along.

As we turned down the driveway I looked back and saw two guys chasing after us, one of them had a bat...

We ran up to a house and some old people living there let us in thankfully. At the time I didn't grasp how messed up it was that we were getting chased and I still have no clue why they were.

3. Mysteries Of The Abandoned Motel

When I was a freshman in college I was on a film shoot near Barstow on Route 66. We were shooting on the property of the café known for the film Bagdad Café.

This property has an abandoned motel attached to it, which is where we were shooting this unbelievably bad horror film.

The motel's floor was full of papers, something I initially figured was a relic from the past, while the motel was doing business. A while into the shoot, we started picking up the papers and reading them.

They were handwritten letters from the seventies, perhaps never sent. They were addressed to dozens of different people, starting normally, but going on to describe some messed up things.

This was a guy who had some demons. He kept talking about how "they" were watching him and the like. The handwriting also got more and more messed up as we assembled the letters chronologically.

Meanwhile, outside the motel, there was a storage container with "Keep out" spray-painted on it. Naturally, we were curious.

There was a hole in the side, and someone reached in and pulled out some documents. Among them was a letter, in government typeface (I think it was the VA).

It was telling the person who wrote those crazy letters that he was (unknowingly) a participant in some tests of hallucinogenic substances while he was in the army.

This whole time, there was a room in the abandoned motel that was sealed off, and we were strictly forbidden from entering.

All the windows were covered by plywood, and the door was barricaded shut.

It smelled like demise. Seriously the worst smell I've ever encountered in my life.

4. Unexplained Lion King Phenomena

Every time I have watched The Lion King someone I know has passed away. It already happened 3 times when I was a child.

It has always happened the same way. We would be watching it as a family, and then the phone would ring during the movie and we would receive the news of a relative’s demise.

No one in my family has ever watched The Lion King since. It was already about 15 years since we last watched it.

5. Mysterious Wake-Up Call

I'm a kid who likes his sleep very much so my Dad often had to wake me up as I slept through my alarm.

He wakes me up the same way every time, by gently putting a hand on my shoulder, and then since I usually plead for 5 more minutes, he yanks the covers off and forces me up.

So a few weeks ago I had to get up very early to go play pickup basketball in the morning with some friends. I set my alarm the night before and went to sleep.

My dad works very far away so he often sleeps at work 2 or 3 nights a week that night he wasn't sleeping at home so I knew I had to get myself up.

I eventually fall asleep and I then wake up to a hand on my shoulder, murmur the usual 5 more minutes, and then I feel the covers yanked off me off the bed. I shot up out of bed because it was a habit at this point.

After all, this is when I knew my dad was serious. I opened my eyes and it was pitch black in my room and nobody was there. I looked around and saw nothing.

Just the lights on my clock that said it was 2:30 in the morning. I was a little more than slightly freaked out. I asked my mom in the morning if my Dad had come home but she said no, he had stayed at work.

6. Whispers In The Dark

My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel that had been converted from an early 20th-century factory (don't know how relevant this is).

We turned the lights off to sleep that night, and he dozed right off. This frustrated me because I had hoped to get laid. So, I sat there turned away from him trying to sleep, to no avail.

Suddenly he puts his hand gently on my shoulder and whispers in my ear, “So, you wanna come over here?” I turned around and saw nothing but his back, him fast asleep.

I started hyperventilating, tears uncontrollably streaming down my face. Took him about an hour to calm me down enough to sleep, but I will never forget that as long as I live.

7. The Enigmatic Playmate

Ever since I was really little my family has always encountered really weird ghostly phenomena. The house we live in now has been the worst by far however with an almost constant stream of events happening.

One of the stories that always freaks people out the most is that there was this little girl who knew our names and would approach us all at different times.

One night I was asleep and I heard a knocking on my door and a girl's voice saying "Dean, open the door! Let me in I want to play! Open the door!

At first, I thought it was my sister but as I woke up I realized it was a much younger girl's voice. I sat there silently freaking out until it eventually stopped.

But just as I was about to go into my sister's room there was a relentless pounding on the 2 separate doors that entered my room and this little girl screaming with laughter saying "I know you’re in there, let me in!"

After a few minutes, I just ended up yelling "Stop it!" and then the pounding stopped. The next morning, I heard my mom and my sister talking.

I hadn't told them about the incident, but they mentioned hearing strange footsteps and giggling sounds throughout the house but neither of them had heard any pounding or me yelling.

8. A Phantom Embrace

I was 14 years old and my grandfather passed away in his sleep, an empty bottle of whiskey at his bedside. I was devastated.

He was the best grandpa, and I could tell I was his favorite. At his funeral, I remember standing at his burial ceremony. I was a little farther back than most of our family.

I needed my space and I was grieving hard. I remember closing my eyes, folding my arms burying my head into my jacket, and crying. My mom then put her arm around me and cried with me.

I felt her, heard her crying into my cheek, her voice mauled by my jacket. She let go and I opened my eyes. What I saw made my heart skip a beat.

My mother was standing 20 feet in front of me. Everyone was. I looked around and realized I was completely alone the whole time.

I don't know who hugged me, maybe it was my grandpa, or maybe I mistook my grandpa's voice for my mother's. To this day I am still confused and a little creeped out.

9. A Book Of Mystery

This happened to a friend of a friend and I have no way of verifying it. The summer between junior and senior year of high school I went down to the lake here I had a bunch of friends who were around my age.

One day we decided to go to an abandoned house because there just wasn't much else to do. During the middle of the day. The house was boarded up a little, with the inside just being a mess.

While we're there, a friend tells me a story of another time they and some other people were at the house (I wasn't there that time). One of the guys who was with them took a book home with them that they found in the house.

Later on, in the middle of the night, the guy claims that his mother got up, came into his room, and told him to return the book to the house.

The next morning, he asked his mom if she remembered doing that last night, and she told him no. That same day, he returned the book.

It's worth mentioning that his mother did not know they went to the house and also did not know anything about the book.

10. Encounters With The Black Lady And Her Cat

I have posted this before, but my sister used to claim she saw a lady in a black dress in our stairway when she was little.

My uncle who got divorced and moved in with us said he used to feel like a cat was in the room with him.

He claimed he felt a cat jump on the bed at night and knock things off the window sill.

Well, when my dad was redoing the drywall in the stairway he found an old black-and-white picture of a lady in a black dress with a cat on her lap. Creepy as heck.

11. Haunting Birthday Balloon

This is a true story. Me and my roommate, Steven, had a pretty big party for his 30th birthday. There are cake, balloons, weed, and booze.

We were having a great time when one of Steven's friends told him he'd give him 100 dollars to go to the casino and gamble, but he had to go gamble with him.

My roommate says heck yeah, they get ready to leave, and so does everyone else, and the party ends. So eventually everyone leaves and it's just me.

I clean up a bit, turn all the lights off in the apartment except my bedroom light, get into my nightwear, and sit on my bed to watch some TV. As I'm sitting there, I keep hearing this dragging noise, followed 15 seconds later by a light plop.

This goes on for 25-30 minutes, but I don't see anything out of the ordinary so I figure maybe its something going wrong with the fish tank.

I keep hearing this for 15 more minutes, thinking nothing of it when some movement by my bedroom door catches my attention.

One of the balloons we used for the party, a big number 0, is sitting at the threshold of my door. Seemingly appearing out of nowhere.

I just stare at it, then, it moves inside my room, dragging the plastic bottom on the ground about half a foot, floats up about half a foot, floats forward about a foot very slowly, and plops the weight back down on the ground.

Then it just sits there doing nothing, and a few minutes later it would repeat it. All this time I'm sitting there horrified.

The balloon continues to move toward me and my bed until it plops down right at the edge of my bed and kind of leans in, right in my face. I jumped up and backed way up, searching for a logical explanation for what I just observed.

12. A Child’s Premonition

My dad tells a story, and I will do my best to recall the details, but my dad was 12 or so and had a cousin who was 8. My dad's aunt had driven down from Louisville for the weekend to visit with the family and brought the kid with her.

My dad said that when the kid arrived he told him that he had had a bad dream the night before that he was in a coffin and he couldn't get out.

My dad told him not to be silly, and my grandfather and dad were going to the feed mill to pick up a load of grain and he rode with them.

On the way they passed the church graveyard and my dad's cousin asked my grandfather that if he were in a coffin would he be buried there.

My grandfather laughed and said maybe one of these days but that is a long long time off so he shouldn't worry about it. They get the load of feed at the mill and head back to the house.

The next day on Sunday, they got up and went to church in Sunday school they had all the kids together and my dad said his cousin asked what it was like to be with Jesus.

The teacher tried to continue with her lesson plan, but then he started to cry and said he needed to know so she changed and talked about what they thought heaven would be like.

After church, he was crossing the road to the parking lot and was hit by a car and passed away. My dad and grandfather will say it's almost like he knew he was going to pass away then. It gives me the shivers a bit.

13. Echoes Of The Past

When I was about 6 or 7 years old my family decided to go on summer vacation up to a little island in Maine. We rented out this old house on the water.

From what I can remember, there were about 6 or 7 other houses on the island. Everyone else who lived there was in their 60 years of age, except for this mid-40s gentleman who fished on the water, his name was Bubba.

Anyway, the island was exceedingly creepy. Everything about the house was really old. Every piece of furniture from that house was probably over 60 years old.

There was no television, running water was used through a well and pump, and hundreds of books and pictures in the house dated through at least the last 100 years.

To make things more creepy, there was an infestation of rats in the backyard that would run around at night.

Also, Whenever we made dinner all of the old ladies who lived in the houses on the island somehow knew and would show up and give us blueberry pie and freshly caught bluefish.

It was creepy. It was as if everyone knew what we were doing and when we did it. Long story short, a few nights into our stay at this house my parents started hearing singing at night.

They said that it would start and stop for about 20-30 minutes. The first few nights they didn't think much of it. The following day, they asked around but they couldn't find the source of the singing.

The second to last night on our week-long stay my whole family heard the singing, and we went outside to find out what was going on. It sounded like a choir of children.

It freaked all of us out but we didn't want it to ruin the trip, it was just very mysterious. The next day my dad starts checking out some of the old photos and books in the library and finds this old scrapbook dated to the early 1920's.

The house we were living in was once an old schoolhouse, and there was a picture of "the boys' choir.” We all left the next day.

14. The Mystery Of Jessie

When I was a kid I had an imaginary friend named Jessie. I don't really remember much about him but I remember my parents asking about him quite a lot and seeming quite concerned.

Anyway, a couple of years ago while visiting relatives in Ireland we were all exchanging ghost stories when my mum brought up Jessie so I was quite confused because I thought he was just an imaginary friend.

My mum started by saying how she didn't understand why I called him Jessie as I'd never heard that name before and she didn't know anyone who was called that, which I didn't think was too weird, it's just a name right?

Then she said that one time when my dad was on his way to work (he was an electrician in a mine at the time) I asked him to bring back coal for Jessie's gran.

I was about 2 or 3 years old at the time and wouldn't have understood what a mine was if I even knew he worked in one.

Then the end of her story was when we were on a day trip to a place we visited a lot when I was young and I suddenly just ran off and they followed me into a graveyard.

I ran straight to a small grave and stopped and just stared at it. It was Jessie's grave. I felt quite creeped out that I spent a lot of time as a child playing with a ghost.

15. Nightmare On A Stormy Night

My friend was trying to sleep in his room on the second floor. However, it was thunderstorming, so he really couldn't sleep. He had the blinds of his window open because he liked the rain.

As the night went on, just as he finally fell asleep, thunder woke him up once again. He adjusted his head on the pillow, and the lightning struck.

As he was now looking toward the window, outside on the covering of the porch was a guy trying to get through the window.

Both of them were startled, my friend said he reached for his bat under his bed, the burglar must have seen and jumped off and ran away. Not really that scary, but I can't even imagine being in that position.

16. Into The Unknown

Anyway, I grew up in a small town in Kansas that I have since gotten out of. The town had tons of substance-addicted trailer trash.

One time a good friend of mine spotted some creepy abandoned house on some off-road several miles outside of town. We were stupid and decided to check it out.

You could tell it was abandoned because the windows were all busted out and all that. The front door was jammed shut, but we managed to get in by shoving ourselves into it hard enough.

The house smelled like chemicals. I'm not sure how else to describe it, but the air kind of stung your nose very slightly when you breathed in.

One thing I saw, but never gave a second thought to until later was a metal can full of rocks with a string cutting across about a foot above foot level in a doorway. We just stepped over it.

We eventually made our way upstairs. There was broken glass all up the stairs, and it cracked loudly as we walked up.

Yes, I know at this point you're going to think we were dumb for not getting the heck out of there, and you are correct, but we were some 16-year-olds who were a bit too curious.

Anyways at the top of the stairs, we saw some scary as-hell junky. He was holding a handgun. He was freaking out, and screaming at us. We ran out of there.

Turns out we stumbled into an illegal substance lab. I drove past the place a couple of years ago and the house has been torn down. The scariest thing that's happened to me though.

17. Nightmare In The Parking Garage

My other friend was once walking through a parking garage late at night. A man in a grey hoodie was lying at awkward angles in the middle of the road. She was wary of approaching him.

He croaked out for help, to be driven to the hospital. She saw a horrible head wound and decided to be a good Samaritan.

She offered to put his bag into the trunk but he remained silent. He threw his black bag at his feet in the passenger seat while she (very nervously) got in the car.

After 5 minutes in the direction of the hospital, she noticed the blood peeling, yes peeling, off of his face. She stopped (no traffic) and asked the man to check her back tire because she thought the car was uneven.

The minute the man got out of the car, she screeched off. She drove to the police station and they examined the car. The black bag contained a butcher's knife and a garbage bag.

18. Exploring The Edge Of Sleep

Some people tell me I'm creepy for doing this. For the past few months, I've been trying to get better at staying conscious as I fall asleep (if that makes any sense).

I'm completely aware that I'm falling asleep, and once I reach my half-dream state, I start hearing voices talking in the room I'm sleeping in, and occasionally seeing people as well.

They'll talk about pretty much anything. Sleep paralysis hits me hard though (that feeling when your body goes numb), so I can't interact with them beyond some verbal responses.

I can look around the room most of the time too. It's really hard to maintain; too much awareness wakes me up, but too little and I'll lose consciousness.

But on those days where I get it just right, I can maintain it for maybe 5-15 minutes on average, and sometimes I even hit full-on lucid dreaming for a few hours.

When I wake up, I'm completely aware of how long I was asleep and can guess the time with about a 5-minute uncertainty.

19. Enigmatic Encounters

I went coon hunting with my uncle in the woods of Southern Ohio. These lights and noise came out of nowhere and seemed to pin us down.

The Redbones (coon hounds) went silent and cried on the ground (they are not afraid of bears or anything I have seen) as a heavy fog rolled onto us and we were almost frozen.

2 seconds later it was all gone, the fog and everything. The dogs were still freaked out so we knew it was just not us. I was 12 so I was not drunk or on illegal substances. Creeps me out to this day. Nice to see ya Digsy.

20. Whispers From Beyond

This is a very personal story and has fueled my belief in ghosts. One night, my mom awoke to my baby sister crying.

She went into my sister’s room to comfort her, asking her if she had a bad dream. My sister said, “Grandma said she won’t be able to come see me anymore.”

My mom was a little confused and told her that she’d take her tomorrow to see Grandma. Turns out, my sister wasn’t talking about my dad’s mother.

She told my Mom “Not that grandma, your mommy.” My mom will never forget this story, my baby sister had been having conversations with my mom’s mother.

I am only two years older than my younger sister. Neither of us got to know my maternal grandmother, she had passed away of a heart disease well before we were born.

21. Ghostly Messages In Childhood Dreams

In my old house when I was about 4 I lived with my mom and there was plenty of weird crap going on in that house.

I had dreams at this house where I would walk into my mom's room, the house deserted and a ghost would lift me by my neck and he said, "You will have this dream four more times."

In the other corner of the room, there was a man and he smashed one-fourth of this tape recorder If I recall correctly.

I had the dream 2 more times after that and each time the ghost in the dream said "3 more times" or "2 more times" etc. and the person kept breaking the recorder.

I had the dream a total of 3 times but moved out of the house before I had the fourth and it never happened again. Pretty spooky. My family has a lot of weird encounters of stuff similar that's odd.

22. Unsettling Foreknowledge

When I was about 10 my father and his friends had gone duck hunting and weren't due back until late that night. My mother sent me to bed around 10 pm.

Around midnight my father and his friends came home and the noise woke me up, so I listened at my bedroom door to hear what was going on.

My mother, father, and the others sat around the kitchen talking and telling stories about the things that happened during the hunting trip.

I found that no matter what was being said, I knew exactly what the next person was going to say. It was like I had dreamed the entire conversation just before waking up.

I grew more and more freaked out as I started whispering to myself the exact statement the next person was going to say, a full 2 to 5 seconds before they said it.

It took me a long time to get back to sleep after that. Ever since then, I've never quite believed that the world is as it seems.

23. The Dream Prophecy

When I was younger (up until about the age of 9 or so) I would have extremely vivid, detailed dreams about things only to "re-live" them a day or two later.

I still remember my third grade “meet your teacher day,” where I woke up that morning fervently telling my parents that I didn't want to go because I had a dream where I would get hurt there.

My parents dismissed it as me not wanting to go up to the school that night, and frustrated I gave them an exact description of the classroom and the teacher

She was even a first-year teacher. so I'd never seen/met her before that night. My parents were more than a little creeped out that morning.

Everything I told them that morning was spot-on, down to the clothing details and the small, barely visible butterfly tattoo on the teacher's ankle. As we were leaving the room, some kids were running through the halls.

One of them smashed right into me and broke my nose. My parents still tell that story to relatives/friends every once in a while, and my dad has since said that he used to have things like that happen as a kid also.

I consider myself a skeptic now, even of my own previous experiences (the chance that it was just a coincidence), but hearing stories similar to mine always makes me wonder.

24. Phantom Sidestep

My dad was driving me and my brother down the back road near our house during the daytime. There was an insane rainstorm that was the absolute worst that I had seen in a long time, with a bit of hail going on as well.

Up ahead during the worst of this rain storm. I see a person in a yellow rain slicker, walking slowly with his head looking down. Couldn't see the face, he had the hood tipped down just enough to be a creep faceless weirdo.

We're approaching on the right side of the road and he is walking in the opposite direction on the same side. About 30 yards before we're about to pass him, he stops, and we approach going about 30 mph.

Suddenly as we are about to pass him, he sidesteps into the road right at the car. My dad swerved slightly and nothing was out of control.

But, he was about 1 foot from clipping the side view. We just keep driving and look back and the fellow just keeps walking after that. None of us could believe it, just rather surreal.

25. Shadowy Stalker In The Woods

When I was 14, I went to a Halloween bonfire at my buddy's place in a rural area. He had a large backyard that was surrounded by some woods. I took a break from the bonfire and headed to a nearby bush to take a leak.

When I was peeing I saw something out of the corner of my eye in the woods, which was about 50 yards away. I looked directly at it and saw nothing.

I went back to my business but saw the large shadowy figure once again. I looked over and saw nothing. At this point, I remember in science class that your peripheral vision is better in locations with very little light.

So I looked toward the area where the figure was without looking directly at it. It appeared as if someone was pacing the edge of the woods looking over towards the bonfire.

I rush back to the group and tell them. The kid who lived there ran into his house and told his dad. The dad comes out with a gun and heads to the edge of the woods.

He comes back and reports nothing. It's possible my eyes could have been playing a trick on me, but I'm almost 100% sure I saw a person stalking us kids.

The nearest neighbor was a mile down the road. It's just creepy that someone in the middle of nowhere would be watching a bunch of kids...

26. Claudius, The Friendly Ghost

I'd like to tell you a story about Claudius. Claudius lives in my house, but he's not alive. He's not evil, either. He's quite nice. We're pretty sure he lives in the little attic above my bedroom.

Sometimes he turns on the TV. Always to the cooking channel. He bangs around in the kitchen at night, probably trying to cook. I bet he was a chef.

He moves my books around, too. I keep them in a specific order, and when I wake up sometimes they'll be completely out of that order. Occasionally he moves other things. He hid my ex's cell phone in a vent once.

Other times, he helps me find things. I'll be searching for something in my room, all but give up on finding it, and find it on my bed.

Once, it was hot as hell, and I hadn't gotten air conditioning yet. I said to myself that I thought I should take a cold shower.

Two seconds later, Claudius turned on the shower for me. Not all ghosts are evil. Mine is quite sweet. Though he doesn't like men. At all.

27. Alive Portraits In A Haunted Cabin

Here's one I read about portraits with a mind of their own. A long time ago, there was a man who went out hunting in the woods. As night fell, he found himself in an unfamiliar part of the forest.

He walked and walked, but he couldn’t find his way home. Wandering in the dark, he eventually came to a small clearing where an old, ramshackle cabin stood.

Tired and weary, he decided to see if he could stay there for the night. When he came closer to the cabin, he saw that the door was standing ajar.

Poking his head inside, he could see that the little cabin was empty, but a bed and a fire was burning in the fireplace.

The hunter threw himself on the bed and decided to sleep there for the night. If the owner came back, he would ask his permission in the morning.

Lying on the bed, half-asleep, he looked around and was surprised to see the walls were covered with paintings. They appeared to be family portraits, all framed and painted in incredible detail.

They seemed very life-like and, without exception, each family portrait was uglier than the next. The hideous faces in the paintings made him incredibly uneasy.

The way they were painted made it seem as if the eyes were staring directly at him. It was incredibly unnerving. He decided he could only get any sleep if he ignored the hideous faces staring at him.

So he turned on his side, facing the wall, pulled the blanket over his head, and drifted off to sleep. In the morning, the hunter woke up to find the cabin bathed in sunlight.

When he looked up, he discovered that there were actually no family portraits on the walls of the cabin, there were only windows.

28. A Dog’s Mysterious Growling

Last year, I lived by myself in a condo with my dog. She was a miniature American Eskimo who was an absolute sweetheart. Normally, she would always stay near me (either to play or just nap near my feet).

One night, she wandered off into my living room and started a low growl directed at my front door. Hearing this, I went over to her and tried to get her to stop. Nope.

I stood in front of her to block her view, and she would just sidestep, never taking her eyes off the front door. I checked it out, went outside, and looked around, but nothing.

She would do this sporadically. Every week or so, for months. Of course, I told my friends about this, and people figured there must have been a dog or other animal outside.

One time we had a lot of people over, and everyone was hanging out in the living room. My dog was an attention seeker, and would just try to get everyone to pet/cuddle her.

All of a sudden, she just stares straight at the front door and starts growling. We check nothing out there. Worth mentioning that I had never heard or seen my dog growl at anything before that.

She passed away last December (while we were back at my parents' place for the holidays), so I never did figure out what was freaking her out.

29. Midnight Mischief

I remember I must have been in like 10 years old or so, and it was early November and I ended up staying up a little too late and was trying to go to sleep.

I was lying under the blankets very comfortably, and then I heard a strange scratchy noise. I just ignored it and pretended that it was just my imagination and didn't think about it.

I closed my eyes and tried to go back to sleep, and I heard it again. This time I understand that it's probably really happening.

I just sit and listen now, and I hear a scratching noise on the hardwood floor under my bed, then I hear a thud. Now I am starting to get creeped out, being young, it's late and I'm hearing these creepy noises.

I'm starting to hear this scratching and thumping noise regularly, but now they're coming from the area near my door.

I'm debating whether I should sit up in bed and take a look or just yell for my parents to rescue me from whatever is making the noise.

After just listening to this noise for what was maybe 5 or 10 minutes I finally built up the courage to sit up and quickly look at what was making the noise. I don't know what to expect, some scary claw or something reaching from under my bed.

I sit up and I see something scurry real quick. I turn on the lights in my room and look at my door and there is a lollipop against the door.

The lollipop's wrapper and stick had small bite marks in it. Turns out a mouse was trying to steal my lollipop but the head of the lollipop couldn't fit through the door crack.

30. A Tale Of Possession

My wife was living for a while in Samoa. A local girl had a strange affliction. She got sicker and sicker and eventually couldn't walk.

My wife said she had something like a large tumor at the top of her leg but when she went to the hospital they couldn't find anything wrong with her so they sent her home.

It looked like the girl was going to pass away until a local medicine woman said she thought the girl was possessed. She said she would exorcise the spirit possessing the girl.

My wife went along to watch as she'd never seen an exorcism before. She thought it would be a load of hokum but wanted to see what the medicine woman would come up with.

It started with the medicine woman putting the girl to sleep or into a trance on the floor. Then the medicine woman stood on the girl's leg, grinding down on top of the tumor with her foot.

My wife expected the girl to scream in pain but she got the shock of her life when the girl started speaking in a man's voice.

The locals who were present said it was the voice of a man who was buried in front of the house.

Most Samoans live on family land which can not be bought or sold, so they bury their family members on their land, not in cemeteries.

The medicine woman demanded the spirit leave the girl's body but he didn't want to. Then she said if he didn't leave she would open the grave and douse the guy's bones in boiling water. He gave in and agreed to leave.

My wife said this was the second freaky bit when the spirit said he was leaving the girl's body all the local dogs that were lying around in the sun outside went insane.

They took off barking and snarling, racing from the house towards the grave as if they were chasing something invisible. My wife remains skeptical but she has no explanation for what she saw and heard that day.

31. The Invisible Intruder

My roommate and I lived in a more than 100-year-old farmhouse. Many strange things happened there to us, but there is one story I tell the most.

One day we were watching TV in the living room on the main floor. And suddenly we heard a loud crash of glass breaking and felt the floor shake in the ceiling above us.

We both ran upstairs and could not find one thing out of place.

32. Shadow In The Screen

We had a "computer room" in our house that was at the end of a hallway. So I went down the hall to use the bathroom and I could see the glow from the computer screen dimly lighting up the room.

It looked like someone walked in front of it and cast a shadow on the wall. I jumped and then started laughing, "Jeez, you scared me.”

I look in and there's no one in the room. I booked it out of there and avoided that bathroom for weeks.

33. Missy’s Mysterious Tale

When my sister was four and I was three we went to visit my grandparent's summer house in the Adirondacks on a lake. My grandmother had inherited the house from her father.

It was a beautiful old Victorian built in the 1880s. Once we got there, my sister started talking about a "friend" she met at the house named Missy. She said Missy lived in the house.

My parents assumed Missy was an imaginary friend and at first thought the whole idea was cute. However, my sister became fixated on Missy, and the "imaginary friend" novelty part wore off.

At some point during the visit, we drove past a graveyard and my sister started freaking out screaming "Missy lives there!"

My parents decided that they would take my sister to a therapist when we got home; however, my sister never brought Missy up again after we left that summer.

About 20 years later, we learned that the house was originally built by a dentist. He had a brother who was a doctor who built a nearby house on the lake. That house still belonged to the heirs of the doctor.

Our family met the heirs and they told us that the dentist and his family had abandoned our house after his young daughter drowned off the dock.

We never learned the girl's name but wonder if she was called Missy.

34. Guardians Of The Dawn

When I was in fifth grade I was walking to the bus and it was just breaking dawn, I had to walk about a half mile down a back road with woods lining either side.

About halfway down I was surrounded by about eight or nine dogs, not wolves, but like actual different breeds of domestic dogs. They didn't make a noise but they blocked my path in a half circle.

I was terrified and ran back home and when I looked back they were gone. When I think back on it I hope maybe they were protecting me from an unknown danger down the road that morning. Who knows.

35. Midday Intruder

I'm home alone one day. It wasn't dark or spooky or raining or anything. It was the middle of the day and I had just gotten home from work. Now, I poop with the door open when I'm home alone so why not.

I'm doing my business and browsing as per tradition when I hear my laundry room door open and slam closed. Odd, it's only 2 pm and my parents don't get home from work until at least 4.

My sister was at school but maybe she left early. I yell "Hello" and reach over and close the door so that whoever is home doesn't have to see me pooping. I hear some footsteps walk into the living room then just stop.

I yell again but no response. My dad listens to audiobooks a lot on his phone so I figured he walked in with earbuds in and didn't hear me. I finished my business up and walked out to see who was home and no one was there.

I kept yelling around the house but there was no answer. I walked outside and it was just my car in the driveway and nothing was there.

I started to panic a little bit since my laundry room door is quite heavy and is very loud when it closes, so there was no way I misheard something. I searched the whole house and looked outside on the patio, side yards, etc.

Nothing. No one was there. I then got this huge feeling of fear and bolted back inside and just sat on the living room couch waiting for something to happen. Nothing happened. No noises, no sounds, no doors opening.

Nothing. I eventually got up and went back to my room and never heard anything again. It would have scared the crap out of me had I not taken care of that problem beforehand.

36. Lost Time On A Road Trip

Creepy depends on your perspective about it but, lost time. My brother was helping me across the country. We borrowed a van and loaded everything up for the last trip.

Just before we left I checked my watch and called my girlfriend that we would be hitting the road soon. My brother checked the kitchen clock but only told me later he did.

We set out but couldn't do more than 80 km/h because of the load. When we took the offramp of my new city my brother told me he couldn't remember the trip, and when I thought about it, neither could I.

We both thought we were tired and thought nothing of it. However, when we arrived at my new house my girlfriend asked if I had broken the speed limit because we were almost an hour early.

When retracing the route, my brother and I both agreed that we can remember passing a certain gas station and nothing thereafter, until the offramp.

To this day we have no clue what happened during that hour we're missing or how we could have traveled that fast. Not with any car or van at least.

Now at the beginning, I wrote we both independently checked for time, this is important for us because one time source could have been wrong but not both. Also, I called before we left which limits the time we could use to travel.

Since then we have never experienced any weirdness like it or otherwise. I don't have any weird memories or dreams, no pieces of metal lodged under my skin, etc. Just an hour I lost.

37. Reappearance Of The Lost Bead

My only ever unexplained creepy experience was also time-related, though more of a delayed event in time. Let me explain. I have this pair of earrings with a series of distinct black Czech glass beads.

Not long after I bought them I was sitting at my old desk absent-mindedly fiddling with one of them in my hand, and a bead slipped off the brass wire.

I heard it fall onto the hardwood floor and bounce a few times.

I immediately searched for it, but couldn't find it anywhere after nearly an hour of searching. The earrings were a little uneven after that, which annoyed me, but I kept them.

A few years later, living in a different city, I dropped another piece of jewelry on the floor while sitting at a completely different desk in my home office.

When I bent down to find it the first thing I came across was that exact missing bead. I was in utter disbelief when I picked it up and found that it slipped perfectly back onto the brass wire, balancing out the number of beads.

I have nothing else like it in terms of jewelry. I had even vacuumed earlier that same day with a new vacuum. I have no logical explanation for this, and I've searched long and hard for one.

38. Haunted Crying Echoes

When I was in high school my uncle would throw me a couple bucks to help babysit his kids with my aunt. They lived in a two-story house by the water, a nice area. The kids were about 3 and 6, respectively.

One day I was sitting in their den on my phone when I started to hear a baby crying. Thinking it was the three-year-old, I headed to the bottom of the stairs to check and see if my aunt was up there dealing with it.

I called her a couple of times with no response. The baby kept crying. I called for her one more time, and when I got no response I started walking up the stairs. Then I heard my cousins and aunt playing outside.

All the hairs on my body stood up and I felt a chill run down my spine. I quietly turned around, walked down the stairs, got in my car, and drove away. The "baby" was still crying when I closed the door behind me.

A few years later I was drunk at a family party and told my uncle the story. He told me that he and his wife used to hear the baby too, and apparently, the previous owners had a kid who passed away from SIDS in that room upstairs.

He's uber-Catholic and had a Mass said for the baby. He said after that it never happened again. Still gives me the willies when I talk about it though.

39. Spectral Intrusion

When I was a baby we lived in a big old Manor House with my grandparents. One day my dad woke up in the middle of the night to see what looked like a ghost of my mum on top of the bed screaming.

It was trying to get into my mum's sleeping body, and it freaked him out so much that he refused to ever go back to the house and we moved out.

When I was about 6 we had moved out and had our apartment. One morning just after we woke up my mum went to make a warm cup of milk for both of us.

It was winter, and the lights were off in the room but were on in the corridor. I can remember vividly seeing the dust come together and a ghost in the form of my Mum but dressed like sure was from the 1800's came together and walked out of the room following after my mum and not acknowledging me in any way.

It was the most surreal thing that I've ever seen and I still vividly remember it.

40. Rosalie's Serendipitous Scrabble Spell

My grandmother who passed before either my sister or I were born was a huge Scrabble player and won a Regional Scrabble Championship for the Midwest United States.

When my sister was very young my parents got out my Grandma's old Scrabble set to show her how to play, even though she was too young to spell anything over 3 or 4 letters.

The game Scrabble starts with each player pulling 7 tiles from the bag. My sister, who I will remind you was very young at the time, pulls out 7 tiles and says "What does E-I-L-O-A-R-S spell"?

My parents look at the letters and realize that my sister Rosalie, who was named after my Grandma Rosalie, pulled her exact 7-letter name from my Grandma's Scrabble set.

41. Mysterious Lights-On Intrusion

So it's about 4:00 am (the beach was a ways away) and my dad and I wake up to go surfing. We make our coffee, turn off all the lights downstairs, and leave through our garage door.

We close the garage door and start backing out before we realize we forgot something. We pull the truck back into the driveway and open the garage.

We find the door going into the house wide open and sleeping bags and other stuff on the ground in front of the door. We walk inside and every single light downstairs is turned on.

At this point, I was thinking, ok what the actual heck cause we walked out of the house with all the lights off. My dad and I went to check if my mom was awake and she was completely asleep upstairs with the door closed. Weird.

Our first thought was that maybe an intruder got into the house and was trying to leave when he noticed we were awake but all the doors were locked.

42. The Curious Case Of Casey’s Stairway Connection

I have an old dog named Casey. When she was a puppy and younger dog she would climb the stairs and lay on a particular step (I think it was like the third or fourth step from the top).

She would stick her head between the gap of the step and the bottom railing of the banister and look out over the living room. She would stay up there for hours and sometimes fell asleep with he head sticking out.

My mom works at the local high school and every summer is required to take safety courses at the school. One year, at one of these courses, she ended up going out to lunch with several people.

One of them she didn't know and began talking to. Eventually, my mom mentioned the town we lived in.

This other woman grew up in the same town.

She asked my mom what section she lived in and my mom said my section's name, turns out she lived in that section as a girl.

Then she asks my mom what street. Lo and behold this woman grew up on our street. Then it turns out that this woman grew up in the house that we live in.

So they get to talking more and my mom mentions that we have a dog named Casey. This woman says that she also had a dog named Casey.

She then goes on to say that Casey would sit on the same step that Casey would and poke her head out from the step. It's not creepy to me but it's one hell of a coincidence if not a little supernatural

43. Encounters With A Ghostly Child

The year I started high school, my parents moved us into a new house and the place was crazy haunted. I have been suffering from insomnia since I was about 14.

I often would be up in the middle of the night and hear someone running up and down the hallway. Occasionally the running would be accompanied by giggling and the sounds of hands hitting the hallway walls.

If I was at home alone cleaning, I would frequently hear what sounded like a small child (it should be noted I did have 5 siblings but on these occasions, I would be home alone) giggling or talking faintly nearby.

My parent's bedroom was always cold, and there would be sounds of someone typing on the computer keyboard when no one was nearby.

I would come into my room (and since I was the first one home from school I knew my siblings hadn't been in there, and my mom never went in there except to try to read my journal) and find my stuff moved around and played with.

For in, the porcelain doll my grandmother gave me would be in some random spot in the room, and there would be little doll footprints on the carpet like someone had been playing with the thing.

I did some digging later, a little girl passed away on the land that the home stood on before there was a home there.

44. Terrifying Night in the Pine Barrens

Not super creepy and this will likely get buried, but I grew up in the pine barrens. I loved living in the woods, and South Jersey has just about no predators so I never felt unsafe walking around the neighborhood at 2 am or so.

Well, one night when I was 19 I left my friend's place at about 2:30-3:30 am walking home and I heard the most ungodly sound I have ever heard in my life. In a split second, your mind tries to rationalize.

At first, I thought it was a cat being run-over then by .6 seconds I thought it was a woman screaming then it sounded like a roar/shriek. This is all in the second and a half it takes me to take in the whole sound.

Now let me be clear, I had lived in those woods all my life, I know what foxes sound like I know what skunks fighting sound like, it was like nothing I have ever heard.

I have never felt primal fear like I did after hearing that sound I ran harder and faster than I ever had in my life. When I got to the front door I was already mentally prepared.

I was prepared to smash the small glass pane to open the door if my sister had locked it. She didn't and nothing was interesting after that point, a few other weird things happened around the same period but nothing like that.

45. A Terrifying Midnight Visit

Several years ago, I woke up in the middle of the night because my cat was growling at something outside the window. She was all puffed up, and in a very aggressive posture.

I try to calm her down, but she is ignoring me and not responding when I pet her. At the time my bedroom was on the 2nd story and missing the screen.

Since my cat is not giving up, I turn the light on in my room and push the curtain aside. As I do, I see a woman with bloody clothes and a bloody face, with long silver hair crawl up my window.

She starts screaming and then she vanishes. My cat stops growling and quickly calms down (though is she still agitated).

Found out that a few hours later my great-grandma passed in the middle of the night. In the daylight, I can see there are smudges on the window.
