The Secret Service Was Reportedly Worried About Trump Family Members Dating Agents
According to a new book book by the Washington Post’s Carol Leonnig, the Secret Service was concerned that some agents might start relationships with women from the Trump family.
When he was inaugurated in 2017, Donald Trump became the oldest president to ever be inaugurated (he was later surpassed by Joe Biden). As such, the children in his family, other than Barron, were full grown adults. Still, the adult children of Trump received a Secret Service detail.
And according to Leonning’s book, a few members of the family were getting too close for comfort. Donald Trump Jr. and wife Vanessa divorced during the Trump presidency. According to the Washington Post scribe, “[Vanessa] started dating one of the agents who had been assigned to her family.” The agent was not disciplined, though, since he was not actively assigned to watch over her.
Tiffany Trump also gave the agency pause. Leonnig writes that Tiffany, “began spending an unusual amount of time alone with a Secret Service agent on her detail,” and the leaders, “became concerned at how close Tiffany appeared to be getting to the tall, dark and handsome agent.”
The president’s youngest daughter has since announced her engagement to Michael Boulos, the heir to a billion dollar fortune.
Trump, himself, might have been somewhat responsible for the attractions. He reportedly judged the agents watching his children by their appearance. Leonning quotes him as saying, “I want these fat guys off my detail. How are they going to protect me and my family if they can’t run down the street?”
