The Proud Boys, a group identified by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a designated hate group, are having a good couple of months. When directly asked to condemn the Proud Boys during the first presidential debate, Donald Trump opted not to. In fact, he told them to “stand back and stand by.”
And on Wednesday night, the group was absolved for election meddling by DNI John Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe instead told Americans than the Iranians had sent threatening emails to Democrats in an effort to “hurt Donald Trump.” Last night, members of the Proud Boys called out Iran for running a false flag operation against them.
Proud Boy Enrique Tarrio told ABC News, “Yesterday we slept comfortably in our beds knowing that we did nothing wrong. Today the FBI confirmed what we already knew. Biden’s disinformation campaign on the debate stage was used by Iran to interfere in our elections. It was amplified by many blue check twitter accounts including Florida state representative Anna Eskamani.”
Tarrio continued, “Twitter silences the New York Post but allows disinformation like this to remain. This was another attempt to discredit our great organization.”
Another member of the group, Joe Biggs, simply declared on social media site Parler, “This means war!”
Iran is denying any involvement in the election meddling. Iranian UN spokesperson Alireza Miryousefi, said in a statement, “The world has been witnessing U.S.’ own desperate public attempts to question the outcome of its own elections at the highest level. These accusations are nothing more than another scenario to undermine voter confidence, and are absurd.”
