Last week, a massive stash of cash was found in the wall behind a bathroom stall at Lakewood Church. The money hoard totaled $600,000 in cash and checks.
Lakewood is, notably, the home church of famous Pastor Joel Osteen. And now the plumber who found the money, which was reported stolen in 2014, is hoping for a reward.
The plumber, who is not revealing his name, told a local news outlet, “I didn’t solve their case, but I solved very key important clues as to what could or may have happened there. I feel like I should get something. I feel like some type of reward should get offered to me.”
Lakewood Church said in a statement, “Recently, while repair work was being done at Lakewood Church, an undisclosed amount of cash and checks were found. Lakewood immediately notified the Houston Police Department and is assisting them with their investigation. Lakewood has no further comment at this time.”
The church had originally offered a $25,000 reward for information on the burglary. Crime Stoppers Nichole Cristoph says that the statute of limitations on the offer has most likely expired. He did note, “That doesn’t preclude [Osteen’s church] from giving him a reward or a combination from Houston Police Department congratulating him on doing the right thing but unfortunately Crime Stoppers is out of the picture at that point.”
