The Miracle on Ice Captain Regrets Putting on MAGA Hat
Donald Trump is desperate for the approval for famous movie stars, artists and athletes. The President recently had members of the 1980 Miracle on Ice hockey team on stage with him at a Las Vegas rally. Prior to them coming on stage, they were handed red Make America Great Again hats.
While the players were cheered enthusiastically at the rally, they were heavily condemned by many for appearing with the deeply unpopular President. The captain of that team, Mike Eruzione, recently told the Washington Post that he might have made a mistake wearing the hat.
Eruzione said that once he got a chance to look at his Twitter account, he saw comments like, “Did they have to wear those hats? … A shame on all of you for wearing those divisive, racist hats. … 40 years ago, you brought joy, but tonight it’s deep sadness.” The hockey star told his wife, “People think we are a disgrace.”
The former US captain continued, “I just put it on. I wasn’t thinking. Maybe this shows I’m naive, shows I’m stupid. I don’t know. I don’t follow politics. I know he’s had some issues and said a lot of things people don’t like.”
