Beto O’Rourke, the Senate challenger to Ted Cruz, is calling for the immediate impeachment of Donald Trump following the President’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
O’Rourke is no stranger to attacking the Republican establishment, blasting Cruz for refusing to denounce President Trump after the POTUS blatantly failed to blame Russian for meddling in the 2016 election, a stance Trump has backstepped on in Tuesday’s press conference.
O’Rourke is fighting hard to shine a light on Russia’s involvement after the Justice Department indicted 12 more Russian intelligence officers last week.
“Standing on stage in another country with the leader of another country who wants to and has sought to undermine this country, and to side with him over the United States — if I were asked to vote on this I would vote to impeach the president,” O’Rourke told the Dallas Morning News.
“Impeachment, much like an indictment, shows that there is enough there for the case to proceed and at this point there is certainly enough there for the case to proceed,” he added.
While it may seem like a logical call to action, O’Rourke is the first major politician from either party to directly call for Donald Trump’s impeachment.
Breaking from Donald Trump, Cruz had this to say to a CNN reporter on Monday night:
Cruz: “I think we need to be acting vigorously to prevent Russian aggression. And I think it's a mistake to be apologizing for Vladimir Putin.”
I asked if he believed the president apologized to Putin.
Cruz: “You have my statement.”

O’Rourke says Cruz’s comment doesn’t go far enough while continuing to attack Russia and refusing to call out Donald Trump for his complete lack of action. “I heard him talk about Russia but I did not hear him say a word about the president’s conduct,” he told the Dallas Morning News.
The politician’s attacks against Cruz might be working. The Hill reports that Cruz is has raised only $4 million in the last three months with $10 million cash on hand. In comparison, O’Rourke has raised $10.4 million during the same time with $14 million cash on hand.
Which major Democratic nominee will be next to call for Donald Trump’s impeachment?
