Tell Your Dad: Ivanka Asks Twitter Followers to Wear a Mask

This week saw a sea change in the way Republican lawmakers talked about face masks in the time of COVID-19. Multiple governors and senators who had previously been mum on the issue began to encourage their use.

Donald Trump, of course, has continued to shy away from wearing masks in public. During his recent speech in South Dakota, few of his supporters chose to wear a face covering or social distance. So it came off quite ironic when the President’s daughter, Ivanka encouraged her followers to mask up.

While her father was holding a maskless rally, the First Daughter tweeted, “Please be safe & responsible this holiday weekend. As we celebrate this 4th of July, follow state & local guidelines to keep you & your loved ones safe. Practice proper hygiene, social distancing & wear a mask when in close proximity to others.”

The Twitter world immediately reacted to the message. Writer Cheri Jacobus replied, “Your brother’s girlfriend just tested positive. They don’t wear masks. Neither does your idiot father.”

Former Amy Klobuchar strategist Max Steele also weighed in, writing, “Unless you’re attending a Trump event, of course.”

And the most obvious response to the message came from Wajahat Ali who simply wrote, “Tell your Dad.”
