Televangelist Says God Put Trump In White House; Devil Put Muslims In Congress
Televangelist Kenneth Copeland believes supernatural forces are battling for control of the U.S. government. He believes that God put Donald Trump in the White House — and that the devil exercised his own powers to put Muslims in Congress.
In a short clip captured by Right Wing Watch, Kenneth Copeland can be seen arguing that a Muslim could never be elected to the House of Representatives without the help of the devil.

Look what the devil did. He raised up people. You would never dream that a Muslim would ever be elected to the House of Representatives of the United States!
As reported by the Washington Post, the first two Muslim women to ever be elected to Congress were sworn in last year. Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib have been under attack by the far right for their religious beliefs and political stances since then. It should also be noted that Representaive André Carson, elected in 2008, and Keith Ellison was elected to Congress in 2006. Both men are Muslims.
It’s not clear exactly what time frame Copeland is picturing when he says that a Muslim in Congress would be unthinkable, but it has clearly been a part of American life for nearly a decade and a half at this point.
The U.S. Constitution’s Article VI states that “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States,” effectively forbidding any official rule that would prevent someone from being electable due to their religious adherence.
