Ted Cruz Quickly Offers Throughts and Prayers After Children Are Killed in Texas School Shooting

After the Sandy Hook shooting, one of the most horrific events in American history, Republican politicians refused to do anything about the scourge of gun violence. As a result, mass shootings at schools have continued to be a regular feature of American life.

Ted Cruz (R-TX) looks over a handgun handed to him by a supporter during a campaign event at CrossRoads Shooting Sports gun shop and range on December 4, 2015 in Johnston, Iowa. A recent poll had Cruz tied for third place with Ben Carson and behind Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and front runner Donald Trump in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. The latest school shooting occurred Tuesday in Uvalde, Texas. At this moment, 2 children are dead and 13 more have been sent to the hospital. Ted Cruz, who has ferociously fought against gun laws, was quick to offer his thoughts and prayers.

CNN’s Omar Jimenez reports, “Two are dead, over a dozen injured, after a shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas a spokesperson from Uvalde Memorial Hospital tells CNN. The hospital’s received 13 children at their facility who were being treated for varying injuries. Suspect is in custody.”

Cruz tweeted almost immediately after the news came out, “Heidi & I are fervently lifting up in prayer the children and families in the horrific shooting in Uvalde. We are in close contact with local officials, but the precise details are still unfolding. Thank you to heroic law enforcement & first responders for acting so swiftly.”

This is a still developing story with more to come.
