Donald Trump’s presidency convinced many people that being elected to major public office wasn’t out of their reach. As a result, wildly unqualified Republicans ran and were elected all over the country. Two of the worst were Lauren Boebert in Colorado and Marjorie Taylor Greene in Georgia.
The two women face a new controversy on a regular basis. This weekend, Taylor Greene spoke at a conference hosted by White Nationalist Nicholas Fuentes. But it was Boebert who had the most embarrassing moment this week, regularly interrupting during the State of the Union. Rather than admonishing her for her behavior, though, Republicans like Ted Cruz are throwing Boebert their support.
At one moment in the speech, Joe Biden discussed burn pits in Afghanistan and the possibility that they might have caused the brain cancer that killed his son Beau. The President remarked, “When they came home, many of the world’s fittest and best-trained warriors were never the same: Headaches. Numbness. Dizziness. A cancer that would put them in a flag-draped coffin.”
“You put them there,” Boebert yelled. “Thirteen of them.” The Colorado Rep was booed and hissed at by other members of Congress.
Ted Cruz seemingly saw nothing wrong with it, though. After the speech last night, the Texas senator posted a picture of Boebert’s outfit on Twitter, writing, “My friend Lauren Boebert at the State of the Union. Drill Baby Drill.”
