Strategist Explains How Obama is the Democrats' Mariano Rivera

While speaking with The Hill's Amie Parnes, a veteran Democratic strategist explained how Democrats will deploy Barack Obama as their closer this month.

He may have appeared at the Democratic National Convention, but Barack Obama still has work to do for the party. With such a close race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, some Democrats are getting anxious for the 44th President to hit the campaign trail.

Strategist Eddie Vale explained to The Hill why Obama has been taking his time, remarking, "He does still pack a punch, and that is why despite the hand-wringing and complaining each cycle, they wait until the end so that he’s not overused and has the most impact."

Vale then continued by comparing Obama to a legendary pitcher from the New York Yankees, "You bring in Obama as the closer and, like Rivera, no matter how old he is, when [Metallica’s] ‘Enter Sandman’ starts blaring, the crowd goes nuts.”

Obama's senior adviser, Eric Schultz, said about the former President's committment to the campaign:

"President Obama believes the stakes of this election could not be more consequential and that is why he is doing everything he can to help elect Vice President Harris, Governor [Tim] Walz and Democrats across the country. His goals are to win the White House, keep the U.S. Senate and take back the House of Representatives."
