Various US intelligence officials have refused to share information with Donald Trump over fears that his administration will continue to leak information.
The Wall Street Journal reports that even when information is offered, officials are refusing to show President Trump the sources they used to obtain that info or the methodology performed to gather important facts. Those sources and methods could include, for instance, the means that an agency uses to spy on a foreign government.
Donald Trump has been at war with the intelligence community since taking office, blaming various agencies for leaking information on a daily basis in order to undermine his administration.
“This Russian connection non-sense is merely an attempt to cover-up the many mistakes made in Hillary Clinton’s losing campaign,” he tweeted.
At one point, Trump questioned if the FBI and NSA were the agencies responsible for “illegally” leaking intelligence to what he calls a “failing” New York Times and Washington Post.
He concluded by deflecting from the recent resignation of Mike Flynn, saying, “The real scandal is that classified information is illegally given out by ‘intelligence’ like candy. Very un-American!”
The war against US intelligence waged by Trump’s administration reached an impasse this week when Retired Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn resigned after he apparently “broke the trust” of Trump’s team following what the White House called a misleading statement he made to Vice President Mike Pence.
The Senate Judiciary Committee this week demanded documents from the Department of Justice detailing the circumstances of Flynn’s resignation, and called for a briefing from the agency.
