Spurning His Father-in-Law Jared Kushner Praises Biden’s Willingness to Rejoin Iran Nuclear Deal
When Donald Trump took over as president in 2017, he focused on undoing everything accomplished during the previous administration. His biggest goal was to end the Affordable Care Act, though he failed to do so. Trump also left the Paris Climate Accord and the Iran Nuclear Deal.
Now that Joe Biden is in office, things are rapidly changing. The US has reentered the Paris Climate Accord. Biden has also shown a willing to reenter the Iran Nuclear Deal. This weekend, Jared Kushner praised Biden’s decision saying it was strategically smart.
The former president’s son-in-law revealed his views in an op-ed for the Wall St. Journal.
“While many were troubled by the Biden team’s opening offer to work with Europe and rejoin the Iran deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, I saw it as a smart diplomatic move,” he wrote. “The Biden administration called Iran’s bluff. It revealed to the Europeans that the JCPOA is dead and only a new framework can bring stability for the future.”
Kushner, of course, also praised Trump within the piece. “Mr. Trump has said that Iran has never won a war but never lost a negotiation. This negotiation is high-stakes and, thanks to his policies, America holds a strong hand. Iran is feigning strength, but its economic situation is dire and it has no ability to sustain conflict or survive indefinitely under current sanctions.”
