South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem Gave Donald Trump a Hideous Mt. Rushmore Sculpture With His Face on It
There is seemingly a competition among Republican governors to see who could be the most lax about COVID-19. Right now, the clear leader is Ron DeSantis whose state is doing worse after a life saving vaccine was developed.
Kristi Noem, though, is giving him a run for his money. The South Dakota governor has allowed 2 super spreader Strugis Motorcycle Rallies during the pandemic. And last 4th of July, she hosted a maskless rally with Donald Trump at Mt. Rushmore. And to honor Trump’s appearance, she apparently gave him a statue of Mt. Rushmore with his face added.
The former president has hinted in the past that he belongs on the monument to the country’s greatest presidents. The New York Times even reported last year that Trump has reached out to Noem about being added.
Trump denied the report, tweeting, “This is Fake News by the failing @nytimes & bad ratings @CNN. Never suggested it although, based on all of the many things accomplished during the first 3 1/2 years, perhaps more than any other Presidency, sounds like a good idea to me!”
Ian Fury, Noem’s communications director, confirmed the report, saying, “As Governor Noem has said in the past, her philosophy towards giving gifts is to always give the person something that they’ll appreciate, and that’s how she approached this sculpture. No taxpayer dollars went into this gift—it was paid for by two donors.”
