Donald Trump has spent much of the last month traveling around the country and holding rallies for GOP candidates. Last night, the President was in Monroe, Louisiana to stump for Eddie Rispone in his governor’s race against incumbent John Bel Edwards.

The President was joined on stage by Senator John Kennedy who often appears as a surrogate for Trump on cable news. Kennedy decided to rile up the crowd by going after the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and referring to her as “dumb.”
Kennedy began by telling his home state crowd, “In three short years, President Trump has doubled the growth in the greatest economy in all of human history. And do you know what our Democratic friends have done for him? Speaker Nancy Pelosi is trying to impeach him.”
The Louisiana senator continued his rant with an insult, “I don’t mean any disrespect, but it must suck to be that dumb.”
An excited Trump then promised the crowd, “We’re a majority, and we’re angry, that will vote the do-nothing Democrats out of office in 2020.”
There has been plenty of condemnation for Kennedy’s comments. Joe Scarborough’s criticism was particularly stinging. Speaking directly to the senator, he said:
“I just wonder how low these people are going to go. How much they’re going to degrade themselves? By the way, senator, guess what? No matter what you do for the rest of your life, that’s your moment when you die. Your bio 30, 40 years from now, whenever it has that’s your moment. Congratulations, you did it for a man who committed crimes.”
