Seditionist Ted Cruz Defends Donald Trump Despite Damning Video Evidence

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), one of two Republicans who egged on the mob that attacked the United States Capitol on January 6th, defended former President Donald Trump during a recess in his impeachment trial in the Senate for inciting an insurrection.

“We all witnessed a terrorist attack on the U.S. Capitol. That was horrendous, it was violent, it was criminal,” Cruz said, according to a press pool report. “And everyone involved in that terrorist attack should be fully prosecuted and should go to jail for a very long time.”

By Cruz’s own standard, that should include Trump, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), and himself, because all three men perpetuated Trump’s lies that the 2020 election was stolen, which it was not.

“They spent a great deal of time focusing on the horrific acts of violence that were played out by the criminals, but the language from the President doesn’t come close to meeting the legal standard for incitement,” Cruz said.

Even though Trump told the crowd at a “Stop the Steal” rally to “fight like hell,” Cruz managed to weasel his way into incredulous rationalizations for Trump.

“And they started the day by playing video of the President saying things like fight and win and take back our country,” Cruz said. “If that language is going to be deemed incitement, there’s not a political candidate in the country who hasn’t used the very same language including — I would wager every single one of the Democratic senators in that chamber had stood on the stump and said go fight, win, take our country.”

The difference, however, is that only Trump has encouraged an armed brigade of hundreds of white nationalists to overthrow the government.
