The Driver who hit the two victims is a 27-year-old man who was taken into custody by Washington State Police. There is still a question as to motive but Capt. Ron Mead explained that his officers are not of the belief that the driver was intoxicated. Mead held a press conference on Saturday but failed to explain how the driver managed to get passed a police block set up to prevent cars from going towards the protesters. Mead instead, said that the tragedy should serve as a warning for protestors who want to take over interstates. He said, “My hope is, as a result of this tragedy, protesters will reconsider their desire to be on the interstate because I cannot guarantee their safety, plain and simple.”
