Donald Trump achieved a win last night as Mexico agreed to a number of immigration stipulations to avoid tariffs. Critics of Trump say he was lucky to be able to solve a problem that was of his own creation.
While Conservatives on Twitter pointed to the resolution as proof of the president’s deal making skills, Democrats weren’t so sure. Chuck Schumer took the occasion to mock Trump’s solution to the problem.
First, Trump took a victory lap over the deal he made with Mexico. He tweeted, “I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended. Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border.”
Schumer was quick to respond to the tweet. He replied to the president, “This is an historic night! Donald Trump has announced that he has cut a deal to “greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States.” Now that that problem is solved, I’m sure we won’t be hearing any more about it in the future.”

The Mexican government acceded to a number of Trump’s demand. The country will be placing additional troops at the border points where migrants typically seek asylum. Following the claims being made, asylum seeking migrants will be returned to Mexico until a review of their claim has been completed.
