Natalia Veselnitskaya, the Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump’s campaign officials at Trump Tower in 2016, was charged Tuesday with obstruction of justice, according to an indictment unsealed Tuesday. Charges were filed in New York.

Veselnitskaya is charged with attempting to “thwart a Justice Department civil fraud investigation” according to the New York Times.
While not directly tied to her Trump Tower meeting, the indictment looks to expose her deep ties to the Kremlin.
The charges claim that Veselnitskaya cooperated with a senior Russian prosecutor to draft a response that attempted to exonerate Russian officials from any crimes after the U.S. Justice Department asked for assistance in investigating collusion claims. The indictment claims her alleged involvement “obstructed the civil proceeding.”
