Ron Johnson, the Republican senator from Wisconsin, does not have the best reputation in the world. In fact, Joe Scarborough has a running gag about how Johnson is the dumbest man in Washington. He has compared the lawmaker to Brick Tamland, Steve Carrell’s character from Anchorman.

There was some thought that Johnson would retire from the Senate and not seek reelection in 2022. Johnson, though, will run is a hotly contested race in Wisconsin this fall. And during a recent interview about his race, the Republican predicted that the potential abortion ban will not be a major issue.

Johnson told the Wall St. Journal, “It might be a little messy for some people, but abortion is not going away.” The Republican also, “said he isn’t sure that a 19th century law in his state that bans abortions except to save the life of the mother will actually go into effect if Roe falls, and that in any event people will still have options.”
