Ron DeSantis Refer to COVID-Ridden Florida as “God’s Waiting Room”
Last last week, Georgia’s Brian Kemp became the first governor to reopen non-essential businesses in a state that has been hit hard by COVID-19. At first, Donald Trump was said to approve the plan, but he later changed his mind and ripped Kemp for the decision.
Florida’s Ron DeSantis is another governor who has been critiqued for the way he’s handled the global pandemic. He was slow to close public beaches in the state and has now allowed many of them to reopen. And during a press conference on Sunday, the governor referred to his state as “God’s Waiting Room.”
DeSantis explained that many of the states residents that have succumbed to the disease were elderly. “Florida is ground zero for the nursing home; I mean we’re God’s waiting room,” he told reporters. “We have a huge number of facilities, a huge number of residents.”
DeSantis has regularly been seen as being in lock-step with the White House and these flippant comments are sure to get the attention of senior citizens living in Florida. Recent polling has shown Joe Biden opening up a large lead on Trump among these voters.
Biden advisor John Anzalone said of the candidate’s polling success with older voters, “This is a universe that’s impacted the most on the health and death side of it. They think this guy (Trump) has been unprepared and chaotic and didn’t have a plan, and that, quite frankly, that could jeopardize them in a lot of ways.
