Ron DeSantis is currently the governor of Florida, but he seems to have his sights set on higher office. And in an effort to raise his national profile, the Republican has warred against any kind of COVID mandate.
DeSantis is quick to fight any kind of regulation meant to keep people safe. So it is no surprise that he recently said that the idea that an officer would be fired for refusing vaccinate was offensive.
Of course, the police officers need some protection. Since the pandemic began, 5 times as many officers have died from the virus than from gunfire.
Still, DeSantis said during a recent press conference, “Let’s not have Biden come in and effectively take away – threaten to take away – the jobs of people who have been working hard throughout this entire pandemic. I am offended that a police officer could potentially lose their job. I just think it’s fundamentally wrong to be taking people’s jobs away, particularly given the situations that we see ourselves facing with the economy.”
