Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard law professor and frequent critic of Robert Mueller’s Russia interference investigation, thinks the special counsel’s report will be disastrous for the president.
Speaking with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, Dershowitz revealed he believes Mueller’s report into the Russian’s interference in the 2016 presidential election will bring about damaging information against Trump, adding:
“I think the report is going to be devastating to the president and I know that the president’s team is already working on a response to the report.”
Dershowitz was quick to add that although he believes the final report will have a strong political impact, he doesn’t think it will result in any criminal charges.
“When I say devastating, I mean it’s going to paint a picture that’s going to be politically very devastating. I still don’t think it’s going to make a criminal case.”
Dershowitz is known for being quite vocal about the Russian investigation, including his harsh criticism against special counsel Robert Mueller. As recently as May 2018, the Harvard Law profession told ABC News he thought it was a mistake for Mueller to be appointed as the head of the investigation. “They should have appointed a non-partisan, independent commission like 9/11 to find out how this election went wrong,” he said, before adding, “We should have had a massive investigation and then we should change the laws to make it clear what you can do and what you can’t do.”
Dershowitz’s prediction about the impact of the investigation comes after Trump submitted his written responses to Mueller’s office, signaling the Russia investigation may be in its final stages.
