November 6, 2018 is only a day away, and Florida has once again become a key battleground for several political races. One such race is for Governor of the state, where incumbent Rick Scott has exceeded his term limit and is now running against Bill Nelson for a U.S. Senate seat.
The race for Florida Governor pits Republican Ron DeSantis against Democrat Andrew Gillum, and it’s a close one. In the latest NBC News / Marist poll, Gillum holds a small 4 point lead over DeSantis.
“FLORIDA: You have the opportunity to make history this election,” Rihanna wrote on Instagram. “The US has only had four black Governors in its entire history, and we can help make #AndrewGillum the next one and Florida’s first! If you’re tired of feeling like you don’t matter in the political process, know the most important thing you can do in supporting a candidate is finding someone who will take on critical issues such as: making minimum wage a livable wage, paying teachers what their worth, ensuring criminal justice reform, making healthcare a right, and repealing Stand Your Ground. That’s a platform we MUST support. Let’s #bringithome, Florida. Vote @andrewgillum. And VOTE YES on Amendment 4 to restore voting rights to folks who have already paid their debt to society. VOTE on November 6th!”
This isn’t the first time that Rihanna has showed her political side. Last month it was announced that she had turned down the NFL’s request for her to perform during the upcoming Super Bowl. She elected not to perform due to her support for her friend Colin Kaepernick.
