Rick Santorum Trashes Trump for Otto Warmbier Comments

Former Pennsylvania Senator, Rick Santorum, can be considered among the staunchest conservatives in the country. Santorum now works for CNN, appearing regularly to argue current events from the Republican angle.

The former Senator is protective of President Donald Trump, even in the most hard to defend situations. The president saying he believes Kim Jong Un had nothing to do with Otto Warmbier’s death, however, was too much for Santorum.

During an appearance on CNN this morning, the former Senator slammed the president for absolving Kim. He told host, John Berman:

“But this is reprehensible, what he just did. He gave cover, as you just said, to a leader who knew very well what was going on with Otto Warmbier. I don’t understand why the president does this, I am disappointed, to say the least, that he did it.”

Santorum was referring to comments made by Trump during his Vietnam summit with Kim. When asked about Warmbier’s death, Trump said Kim, “feels badly about it.”  He continued, “I don’t believe he would have allowed that to happen,” Trump said. “It just wasn’t to his advantage to allow that to happen.”

The White House has yet to comment on Trump’s appraisal of the Warmbier situation.
