CORAL GABLES, FL — A day after the insurrection at the Capitol where multiple deaths occurred, Marco Rubio took to Fox News, where he brushed off the possibility of invoking the 25th Amendment and instead condemns President-elect Joe Biden’s unifying speech. And today, Rubio released a four-minute video where he “denounces” Wednesday’s violence and mayhem, while calling Democrats “hypocrites” and reciting false claims about election fraud in the 2020 elections.
“Donald Trump has been the single biggest threat to America for the past four years, and he is determined to destroy the country on his way out. If Marco can’t find his spine to support invoking the 25th Amendment, hopefully, he can find it to support the House’s decision to move forward with Impeachment. By doing this, not only does he protect the country over the next 12 days but ensures Donald Trump is disqualified from holding office ever again.”
Retire Rubio was formed in part by Florida Democratic strategist Ben Pollara, focusing on defeating Marco Rubio. Pollara has a long history of success in statewide campaigns in Florida. He recently managed the successful initiative to raise Florida’s minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2026, as well as Miami Rep. Nick Duran’s reelection to a third term. Pollara was previously a Senior Advisor to Ag Commissioner Nikki Fried’s 2018 campaign and the strategist who passed medical marijuana in 2016.
In addition to Pollara, Retire Rubio is being advised by a rising star in Democratic congressional campaign circles, Nick Merlino. A Miami native, Merlino just managed a six-figure Independent Expedenditure in Georgia during the Senate Run-offs that helped secure the Majority for Democrats after coming off one of the most competitive congressional campaigns in Texas in 2020. Merlino is a veteran of Florida’s medical marijuana campaigns.
Dave Jacobson, a former CNN political commentator, and Mac Zilber, both Democratic ad makers and co-founders of the award-winning political media firm J&Z Strategies, will serve as Retire Rubio’s media team.
