Republicans in Georgia Form a Group Focused on “Stopping” Stacey Abrams
In 2018, Stacey Abrams lost her Georgia gubernatorial race to Republican Brian Kemp. The Democrat lost by around 50,000 votes in an election marred by claims of voter suppression.
Abrams turned her anger from the race into a positive by registering thousands of voters. Thanks to her efforts, Joe Biden won the formerly red state in 2020. Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff then won places in the senate during a 2021 special election.
After she helped flip the senate and the White House, the GOP has made Abrams a target. In fact, a group of group of Georgia Republicans have formed a group aimed at “stopping Stacey.”
The organization has created a website called stopstacey.org. They write on the site, “Stop higher taxes. Stop government healthcare takeover. Stop the assault on election integrity. Stop the radical left. Stop the new DC swamp. Stop Stacey Abrams.”
The group also put out a statement which read, “Stacey Abrams is trying to claim total control of America – which is why it’s so critical for Republicans across Georgia and across the country to have a dedicated, well-funded outside organization to stop her.”
Abrams, of course, isn’t the type of person to easily be cowed by outside groups. The Georgia Democrat was recently nominated for a Nobel Prize.
Stacey Abrams has been nominated for this year's Nobel Peace Prize for her work to promote nonviolent change via the ballot box. https://t.co/XPDzxaWFb6
