Republicans Can’t Mask Their Idiocy About Masks
Dr. Anthony Fauci is widely recognized as the United States’ leading authority on infectious diseases. That’s why President Joe Biden has placed him at the forefront of the effort to combat the coronavirus, the response to which Donald Trump, Scott Atlas and Jared Kushner bungled so badly that more than 440,000 Americans have died.
Former Arkansas Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee has exactly zero years of experience in public health. The same goes for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio). Yet the two of them have felt the perverse need to snidely challenge the recommendations of Dr. Fauci about doubling up on masks as the new, more easily transmittable variants of the coronavirus spread throughout the country.
Huckabee lobbed out this non-sensical tweet: “The same Fauci who once said a mask was dangerous now says use 2 masks. Will 2 pair of glasses make us see better? 2 sets of headphones to hear better? 2 watches to stay on time? Makes ‘common sense,’ right?”

First and most obviously there’s a glaring disconnect in the former governor/Fox News commentator’s logic. Fauci’s recommendation, backed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is that increasing the layers of masking will prevent more airborne droplets from penetrating. Comparing that to putting two pair of glasses on one’s face is either stupid, which certainly is possible with Huckabee, or deliberately disingenuous. Either way he got royally flamed on Twitter for dunking on double masking. Here’s just one: “I felt the same way about having 2 Huckabees,” a reference to Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former belligerent White House press secretary and current candidate to follow in her father’s footsteps as governor of the razorback state.

Ohio congressman Jordan, who hates wearing a face mask about as much as he hates wearing a suit jacket, used his official Twitter account to ask followers, “How many masks are you wearing today? 2? 3? 4? 10?”

He probably should have thought that through before hitting “Tweet” because many had similarly formatted questions for Jordan. Parkland school shooting survivor and gun control activist David Hogg wanted to know “how many acts of treason are you committing today?” Sleeping Giants inquired “how many sexually abused wrestlers did you ignore today?”
