After yesterday’s summit in Helsinki, between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, we have seen people on both sides of the aisle come out in condemnation of President Trump’s actions. We’ve seen Republican Senators and Congressmen as well as Republican media outlets chide Trump for siding with Putin over U.S. intelligence agencies.
The attacks from the right have continued into this morning, as Republican Senator Bob Corker from Tennessee had some harsh words for Trump today.
“As I said yesterday, the Helsinki press conference was saddening and disappointing, and I am glad people on both sides of the aisle condemned it strongly,” Corker tweeted.
“The dam is finally breaking,” he continued. “Thankfully. As the president taxes Americans with tariffs, he pushes away our allies and further strengthens Putin. It is time for Congress to step up and take back our authorities. We have legislation to do that. Let’s vote.”
Corker has long been one of the few Republicans in Congress willing to stand up and say when he thinks the President is wrong. It will be interesting to see how others in Congress react. Do they follow his lead and finally say “enough is enough,” or do they keep quiet before going back to endorsing every word that Trump says?
