Since Donald Trump was voted out of office in November, many members of the Conservative media have grown angrier. None more than Tucker Carlson. The Fox News host has amped up his COVID-19 conspiracy theories and denial of white supremacy. And Carlson frequently bashes other members of the media for being anti-Conservative. But according to a new report from The New York Times, the Fox host is very happy to talk to reporters from news sources he bashes as being too Liberal. In fact, he’s one of their top sources.
In a column called, Tucker Carlson Calls Journalists ‘Animals.’ He’s Also Their Best Source, Ben Smith writes:
“He’s the go-to guy for sometimes-unflattering stories about Donald J. Trump and for coverage of the internal politics of Fox News (not to mention stories about Mr. Carlson himself). I won’t talk here about any off-the-record conversations I may have had with him. But 16 other journalists (none from The Times; it would put my colleagues in a weird position if I asked them) told me on background that he has been, as three of them put it, ‘a great source.'”
Smith also noted that Carlson has used his relationships in the media to correct himself from more intense criticism. His relationships have, “served as a kind of insurance policy,” he wrote, “protecting him from the marginalization that ended the Fox career of his predecessor, Glenn Beck, who also drew a huge audience with shadowy theories of elite conspiracy.”
