Steve Bannon was a key member of Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign team. Post-inauguration, Trump rewarded Bannon by naming him his Cheif Strategist. That job did not last long, though, and Bannon was out of the White House in around 6 months.

Since then, the political strategist has hosted a podcast that regularly platforms members of the Far-Right. He was recently the subject of an Atlantic piece by Jennifer Senior. According to the writer, Bannon frets both about his look and the reputation of his show.
Senior who exchanged a number of text message messages with the former Chief Strategist. She writes:
“There were times when my text interactions with Bannon felt like one prolonged Turing Test. There were times when he almost resembled a regular human. He would talk about missing his father, who died in January at 100, and how strange it was to be in his childhood home alone. (Just sat in the family room for hours.) He would fret about his weight and express pleasure when a newspaper used a photo that did not, for once, make him look god-awful, like some deranged incel by way of Maurice Sendak.”
The journalist also noted that Bannon is sensitive about the reception of her show. She noted that he would become upset when she referred to his “‘War Room’ program as a podcast, although he insists it’s a TV show with an important visual aspect.”
