Report: Rudy Guiliani is in Deep Legal Jeopardy, But a Presidential Pardon is Likely
Rudy Giuliani was once seen as the next president of the United States. His national political career never really took off though. He hitched his wagon, instead, to the rising star of Donald Trump.
And for better or worse, Giuliani has served as Trump’s lawyers. The results haven’t been pretty. The former New York City mayor was responsible for Trump’s impeachment. Giuliani’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election results have been embarrassing, resulting in frequent humiliation.
The law is also catching up to the president’s lawyer. On Monday night, Rachel Maddow reported that there is a serious federal investigation into Giuliani. MSNBC’s Julia Ainsley, though, says that Trump can shut down the investigation with a simple pardon.
Maddow told viewers last night, “We can report tonight, according to two sources familiar with the investigation, that federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York have expressed interest in and have discussed the possibility of trying to obtain Mr. Giuliani’s electronic communications.”

When asked about the situation on Tuesday morning, Ainsley suggested there is a simple solution. “I think that that is even more something that we want to be looking for now because if the president not only wanted to protect Rudy Giuliani but also himself,” she said. “Knowing that some of his communications could be seen with the investigators. It’s in the back pocket, and because this is a federal investigation the president does have the power and all he’d need is a pardon to put this entire investigation to bed.”
