Report: Rudy Giuliani Tried to Use His NYPD Connections to Get Borat Crew Arrested
20 years ago, Rudy Giuliani was one of the most respected politicians in America. Today, he is a complete laughingstock. His recent appearance in the latest Borat movie didn’t do anything to help his reputation. In the film, Giuliani fiddles with his pants in the presence of a woman he was told was 15 year old.
According to the producer of the film, Giuliani tried to prevent the embarrassment of that clip getting out. According to Monica Levinson the former Mayor used his connections in the NYPD in an attempt to get the crew arrested.
Levinson made the comments while speaking on a Saturday panel. “He claimed we were trying to extort him at the time, which we didn’t ask for anything,” she said. “He called all of his New York City cops and said extortion, which was a federal crime. Very smart to bring that up.”
The producer also explained that the footage had been transferred before the cops came. She continued, “That’s always out first. We would hide tapes in our pants. There’s always ways to make sure we got out the data. We actually had to rent new equipment. It was a really stressful time that evening because the hotel wouldn’t let us take anything out of the rooms.”
Levinson ended the story, “We ended up confabbing with our lawyers. I called the production team and said, ‘Let’s get everyone to New Jersey tonight.’ It was 11 o’clock at night. I didn’t want a repeat of what happened to me on the first movie happening to the entire crew.”
