Throughout his presidency, Donald Trump enjoyed the adulation of the anchors on Fox News. And for the most part, Trump paid that loyalty back by giving the network incredible access. That slightly changed close to the election. Angered that anchors like Bret Baier and Chris Wallace would report on him honestly, Trump told viewers to switch to OAN or Newsmax.
Still, Fox was always Trump’s number one. And when Trump would appear on their shows, anchors would get big ratings. So there was a fair amount of competition for him. According to a report from the Washington Post, Jeanine Pirro was jealous about how often Trump would appear on Sean Hannity’s show.
Ashley Parker and Josh Dawsey write:
“When Kelly could not watch the prime-time Fox shows himself, he would ask other staffers to monitor them, and he would scour the White House call logs for the names of Fox News personalities,” said the Washington Post report. Jeanine “Pirro, several Trump aides said, often grew irate if the former president did not appear on her show frequently enough in her view, especially if he had been on Hannity’s show several times prior.”
