Report: GOP Moderates Are Upset With Kevin McCarthy’s Embrace of Far-Right Reps

Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell have handled things much differently since Donald Trump was voted out and Republicans lost power. McConnell has said that the party needs to move on without him. Kevin McCarthy, however, went down to Mar-a-Lago to pledge his allegiance to the former president.

And being a Trump stooge means the House minority leader needs to turn a blind eye to congressional Republicans who have done controversial things. Still, Reps. like Marjorie Taylor Greene have threatened McCarthy by saying that he doesn’t have the support of the extreme right. And according to CNN, he also may not have the support of Moderate Republicans.

Melanie Zanona tweeted, “A moderate House Republican is firing off a warning shot at Kevin McCarthy as he caters to his right flank in a quest for the speakership. ‘He’s taking the middle of the conference for granted,’ the member told me. ‘McCarthy could have a bigger math problem with the moderates.'”

The message continued, “Specifically, this lawmaker said a number of mods are upset McCarthy has embraced some of the extremists in the conference & warned it could hurt the party in swing districts, undermining their efforts at winning back the House. ‘Our side isn’t going to take this much longer.'”
