Back in 2015, nearly 20 people, some politicians, others not, sought the Republican nomination. All of those hopefuls were eventually steamrolled by the then unstoppable Donald Trump. Most of those hopefuls also fell in line behind Trump and his policies.
One person from that group who hasn’t followed Trump is John Kasich. The former governor of Ohio frequently appears on cable news to discuss to President and his policies. And according to the Associated Press, Kasich will also be appearing at this years Democratic National Convention.
Steve Peoples writes, “Former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a Republican and frequent Trump critic, has been approached and is expected to speak at the Democratic National Convention on Biden’s behalf next month.”
Kasich won’t only be speaking as a favor to Biden, he’ll also be doing so in opposition to Donald Trump. The former governor also wants to save his party. He told CNN earlier this month:
“It wasn’t that long ago that we Republicans were talking about how to expand our party. The damage done by years of capitulation to Trump’s divisive rhetoric will take many more years to heal. The GOP brand is tarnished but it’s not too late for elected leaders to speak out.”
