Report: DeSantis to Punish the Tampa Bay Rays For Gun Control Support by Vetoing Stadium Funding

When Ron DeSantis was elected Governor of Florida, he won by less than .5%. Since then, however, he has ruled over the state as if he won by 40%.

MIAMI, FLORIDA – MAY 17: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis speaks during a press conference at the University of Miami Health System Don Soffer Clinical Research Center on May 17, 2022 in Miami, Florida. The governor held the press conference to announce that the state of Florida would be providing $100 million for Florida’s cancer research centers, after he signs the state budget into law. The brazen Governor frequently abuses his power to punish those who he sees as enemies. After the shooting in Uvalde, the Tampa Bay Rays called out gun violence and donated $50,000 to Everytown’s Gun Safety charity. Now DeSantis plans on punishing the MLB team by pulling stadium funding.

Bobby Burack from Outkick wrote on Thursday, “Florida Governor Ron DeSantis plans to veto a $35 million legislation for a Pasco County facility that’s earmarked for the Tampa Bay Rays’ spring training, OutKick has learned. DeSantis’s decision is in response to the Rays politicizing recent shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde ahead of a matchup with the Yankees in May.”

Christina Pushaw, a spokesperson for DeSantis, looks to have confirmed the report by retweeting the story.
