On Monday, June 1st, Donald Trump took it upon himself to clear a path along a Washington DC street. On the way to St. Johns Church, the President had troops fire tear gas peaceful protesters so that he could pose for a brief photo op.
Since that day, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has been on a mission to prove to the President that the DC streets belong to her and not Trump. According to a new report from the Washington Post, the DC lawmaker is out to “humiliate” the President.
The Post reports of the feud, “Over the past 10 days — set against the backdrop of the pitched national protests over police violence — their once relatively temperate relationship has erupted into an ugly schism freighted with the overtones of race and power that have infused the protests, as well as city leaders’ long and fruitless fight for D.C. statehood.”
The drama began when Bowser tweeted, “While he hides behind his fence afraid/alone, I stand w/ people peacefully exercising their First Amendment Right after the murder of #GeorgeFloyd & hundreds of years of institutional racism There are no vicious dogs & ominous weapons. There is just a scared man. Afraid/alone…”

Days later Trump made his march to St. Johns Church. It was reported by CNN that he did so because he was upset by reports that he had been hiding in a bunker.
Bowser responed to Trump’s stunt by painting Black Lives Matter along one of the city’s streets. She also renamed the street Black Lives Matter Plaza.
This enraged the President who tweeted, “The incompetent Mayor of Washington, D.C., Mayor Bowser, who’s budget is totally out of control and is constantly coming back to us for ‘handouts’, is now fighting with the National Guard, who saved her from great embarrassment.”
