The 2020 Presidential election looks to be the most consequential in generations. Every move made by potential Democratic candidates will be heavily scrutinized. This especially true of the eventual candidates choice of running mate.
The nominee may choose a potential Vice President who is popular in a needed swing state. Or they may choose a running mate who will appeal to minority voters. According to Conservative pundit Matt Drudge, Mike Bloomberg could be considering a Vice President with significant experience; Hillary Clinton.
Drudge tweeted on Saturday morning, “Sources close to Bloomberg campaign tell DRUDGE REPORT that candidate is considering Hillary as running mate, after their polling found the Bloomberg-Clinton combination would be a formidable force.”
All parties involved were unwilling to discuss a potential pairing. Bloomberg spokesperson Jason Schechter said, “We are focused on the primary and the debate, not VP speculation.”
Clinton was asked if she would consider a VP slot during a recent appearance on the Ellen show. “Well that’s not happening,” she told the host. “But no, probably no.”
Former Clinton aide Zerlina Maxwell said she was highly skeptical of Drudge’s report. She then ripped into Bloomberg saying, “I don’t think by accepting a deeply flawed candidate, particularly one that hasn’t debated any of the other candidates — I think we’re jumping ahead before black and brown people have an opportunity to weigh in at the ballot box.”
